« on: Thursday 28 July 16 16:41 BST (UK) »
Was just looking at 1911 census for my Grandfather/Mother and noticed column saying "children born".
I know the names of their alive children,How do i find the names of Deceased ones (3) unless you know their first names I cant see how you can trace them!!
Any ideas please.

Have you looked on FreeBMD for births and pre-1911 deaths of children with the relevant surname in the relevant area since the couple's marriage?

Obviously this is easier with rare surnames than with more frequently-occurring ones.

If West Brom registration district (rather than subdistrict) can you narrow them down to the relevant subdistrict using www.westmidlandsbmd.org.uk?

Also some of the UK BMD sites index mother's maiden name for earlier dates than FreeBMD - can't remember whether WestMidlands is one of them though.

Hi,

Don't know if this will help, but I found a few of my great grandmothers children who died in infancy, buried in the same plot with family through internment records.

Possibly another avenue is baptisms.

In my local area, back in the day if a child was stillborn it would be registered in a book at my local cem.  Which could be viewed by appointment, relating to FH.

Just a thought

Cas

Also - and this is probably obvious - if any of the 8 possible candidates lived at a census time, you may be able to eliminate them by (e.g.) finding them in another family in 1901.

Try to match the birth and death dates of those 8 children against the 3 that you know of; you might find that there are some clashes such that it would have been physically impossible for the same parents to have been involved.

Look at other families of the same surname in the same district - which of those 8 can you rule out as belonging elsewhere?
Bradbury (Sedgeley, Bilston, Warrington)
Cooper (Sedgeley, Bilston)
Kilner/Kilmer (Leic, Notts)
Greenfield (Liverpool)
Holyland (Anywhere and everywhere, also Holiland Holliland Hollyland)
Pryce/Price (Welshpool, Liverpool)
Rawson (Leicester)
Upton (Desford, Leics)
Partrick (Vera and George, Leicester)
Marshall (Westmorland, Cheshire/Leicester)

If you give us details such as:

 - The names & birthyears of the couple and their marriage date
 - The names & birthyears of the known children
 - The details of the 8 (or so) candidates you've identified for the 3 missing children

...I am sure Rootschatters will be willing to have a go at helping to narrow the list.
