Westoe Cemetery

Does anyone know if the council provides photographs of headstones & memorials as well as details from the burial register if you pay your £6 fee?

If not I'll try and ring them tomorrow.

I've rung Bereavement Services today and will post again when they reply.

Hi Jay

Sorry, I should have replied.

I actually got the answer yesterday, so they did take a bit of time with the look-up but they are dealing with the recently bereaved which must take priority over family history enquiries.

Despite believing the plot was a Westoe, the office informed me the grave is actually at Harton, (the cemetery supervisor checked the registers) they sent the plot number and dates and a photo.

They did not make a charge and I have queried this with them but Bereavement Services have not come back to me.

If they are going to charge £6, in my case I think it is excellent value for money. I can't get to the cemetery for that price.

Hi Dawn

Thanks for the info, sorry for the late reply.

Top marks for a great service.

I have an ancestor I believe is buried at Westoe in 1859 so I shall try contacting them.

Do you have an email address for the Bereavement Services?

Cheers
Jay

Hi Jay

http://www.southtyneside.gov.uk/article/7679/cemeteries-and-the-crematorium-in-south-tyneside

I made sure I had full names, addresses and exact dates of death so although they weren't at Westoe I imagine it wasn't too time-consuming to find them at Harton.
