James HOWELL and Ann ASKER
« on: Thursday 28 July 16 23:35 BST (UK) »
Could someone please look up the marriage of James HOWELL and Ann ASKER (as per FamilySearch - married 13 July 1823 St Mary Lewisham, Kent) and tell me if there is anything to hint as to the ancestry of this James HOWELL.

The 1841 Census has him born in Kent.
If I have the correct entry, FamilySearch has Ann as a widow in the 1851 Census. :(
The 1861 Census has him aged 71, born Plumstead, Kent. :)

I am trying to see if he is the brother of my ancestor ;
Lucy HOWELL. born 3rd Aug 1790, bapt 15th Aug 1790 (St Nicholas Plumstead, Kent), daughter of James HOWELL & Ann.

Regards
Grantley

Hi

There is nothing really different to what FS have already transcribed.

He did sign the register, Ann left her mark

Witnesses: Esther Simmons and John Jones ( he looks like a church official ~ witnessed other marriages on the page)

Not sure if it is an error on the transcribers part but James's surname in the register, where he signed was spelt HOWEL

Hi

Looking at the census entry for 1851 it does look like the same family minus James and Ann is a widow as you say. Their last child born was Emma c1848

In the 1861 census James has reappeared, Emma is now 13. What is interesting is the appearance of another daughter JULIA MILLER aged 11, who is she ?

Could maybe explain James's disappearance in 1851, it might be worth trying to find this Julia Miller in 1851

I am glad that you said Julia MILLER aged 11.

I have not yet looked at the original image, but I am going by the transcript on FamilySearch.

They have her as July MILLER aged 4.

Maybe that is why I hadn't found her yet.
