James Sanders, Ashbourne
« on: Wednesday 03 August 16 16:01 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm hoping someone might be able to help! I'm looking for information on James Sanders who lived on New Road, Ashbourne in the early part of the 19th century (particularly during the 1810s). The records for the baptism of his children at St Oswald's states that he was a mail guard. He spent the latter part of his life in Torver, Lancashire (now Cumbria) where he died in 1850.

Any help would be much appreciated!!!

I posted the above message a while ago and have had a bit of luck finding a will for James Sanders. In it it states that he had land or property “at Compton, in the Parish of Clifton in the County of Derby”. I was hoping someone may be able to provide some information as to where this land and property may have been.

The will also mentions a son, Henry, who is new to my family tree and who I have been unsuccessful in finding a baptism for. I know three of James’ children were christened at St Oswald but have had no luck with Henry. If anyone can help with either of these things, that would be great.
