« on: Friday 05 August 16 16:30 BST (UK) »
Born on 26/1/1866 Dedworth Windsor England.
There is some mention of her in this thread http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=597886.18

I am trying to write up more about her.
I do not know a great deal about her life. I is possible to determine is that apparently she lived in Hillingdon, Middlesex at the time of the 1881 census Could anybody please inform me what her occupation was or other relevant details?

I'm not sure that you are going to find any evidence that Mary Ethel Russell was in London prior to 1891 - she marries in Windsor, and has her daughter in Slough.

From your other thread:
Possible for 1891 census:

Are you trying to work out where Austin Tomkins and Mary Ethel Russell met?  (Just seen that one of the Ancestry trees has Mary Ethel in HIllingdon in the 1881 but the census image that it links to is for Austin Tomkins)

I have been a while repying because I have info that is very confusing. Probably because I am trying to find the answer to too many quesstions at once.

Heywood can you please inform me of the address of Isaac Rudgeon or Ridgeon and times he was at that address?

I think that I'm well on the way to knowing all that I can M.E.R.  was married 3 times.
Henry Green d. 1899
A Tomkins. d 1904
Richard Redrup, d 1926

Mary Ethel worked in cafe that LF Kirtland started in abt 1936 and ran until the early 1950s
My late mother told me stories about her when I was a boy she was an incredible character. So mch so that I have seen her mentioned in a post by a Windsor old timer.
I have recently put a lot of info together that seems to point to the fact that was fairly heavily involved in the sale of goods on the black market in WW2. I guess that I am searching for the unknowable, but, one never knows. I recently found a picture  of my grandfather with one of his sons with a man who was a racehorse trainer, for all the world they looked like gangsters;
One day I might have enough for a pretty good story

re
Mary Ethel Russell having her daughter in Slough.
I have discovered that the daughter was born at Stoke Poges. I already know her exact birthdate but it might be time to shell out for a birth cert. as I do not seem to be able to find anything else relevant on-line.

Edit
re Austin Tomkins and Mary Ethel Russell meeting. That was not my original purpose of the post but it would be nice to know for sure. Windsor ? Colchester ? She was living in barracks there at one stage.

Mary married one of her husbands at Padington.

I remember your earlier thread well, partly because I was helping you uncover the stuff about Mary Russell.

She does sound fascinating - where did you get info that she was into black market goods  :o  Have you seen the family on the 1939 register?

Thanks for all that you have uncovered for me Spidermonkey.
My post was badly written. It is not clear, I meant LF Kirtland seemed to be into the back market.
I have this from two sources My late uncle wrote a speech which was read out at my mothers funeral. one of the stories in it mentioning a very close brush with the law when they were stopped with contriband in the car. I recently saw a cousin that I have previously only seen once in the last forty odd years. He told me about his father and showed me his family pics. It was an incredible meeting.
Our theory seemed to be 95% confirmed when I briefly researched the racehorse trainer Tommy Westhead.

While I am giving my thanks,  also to Mable Bagshaw
