OK, that eliminates Carlogie near Carnoustie, then.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

I went through the 1841 census of Cortachy and Clova on FreeCEN and made a list of all the names of places in the census. Then I opened up the First Edition Ordnance Survey six-inch map, and a modern map, and compared the three. I reckon I have located all but ten of the 94 places named in the 1841 census, some with a bit of informed guesswork.

None of them jumps off the page as a candidate for either 'Catnobock' or 'Curlog'.

Is it possible that your 'Curlog' could have been 'Cros(s)bog'?
See http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NO3862 and
http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=16&lat=56.7490&lon=-3.0102&layers=5&b=1

There is a Hill of Couternach, but neither the census nor the maps mention or show any buildings there. However there could have been something there 100 years before the available maps.

Your best chance of settling this question is the records of Airlie Estates, which are in the National Records of Scotland, catalogue references starting with GD16. There are 2249 items in this collection, including rental rolls and probably estate plans. Go to http://catalogue.nrscotland.gov.uk/nrsonlinecatalogue/search.aspx, put Airlie in the "Search for" box and GD16 in the "Reference" box, then check "Starts" and click "Search".

Thank you so very much for your input and help.
Considering his event was way back in  1650 & 1680 it could prove to be a wee bit of a challenge.
Hoping The Scotland Archives can shed a bit of help....Cheers

Indeed. But it's always worth a look!
