My grand dad had a grocers shop in St Johns Road Waterloo  circa 1940.

My grand mother had   A CTN shop next to the Caradoc pub near to the bridge carrying the overhead railway at Seaforth

My so many times Gt Uncle had a grocers shop in Toxteth Park ~ he used to supply the workhouse with fruit and veg. Although he did end up in court after adding copper sulphate to his peas to make them look more appealing ~ idiot poisoned his customers ;D

My dad told me  that in the 1920s  or 1930s,    children with no shoes on  would   be waiting  at the dock gates   as the dock workers  finished their shift,   They would ask the dockers if they still  had  some of their "carry out"  packed lunch  left over  to give to the children.

That's such a shame :( I was helping someone the other day whose ancestor had been sent to the local industrial school for begging. It's so sad some of the things we learn about the lives and places our ancestors were from.

I remember in the 1950s on New Year's Eve  my dad and I would go out for a walk (from Crosby)
And  as midnight struck,  we would hear the ships horns blasting out in celebration of the New Year. In those days there were more ships in port.
