That's a lovely memory to have :) All you hear here in Blackpool is drunken revellers and lots of fireworks. Last year my OH tied a couple of rockets together on NYE - flew about ten foot in the air, turned round flew straight into my garden shed, exploded and set it on fire  :o :D

That reminds me of the time when I was walking along the beach at Crosby.
I saw something resembling a military shell on the sand and I was throwing stones at it.  Several weeks later I read in the local paper that someone had discovered a live shell on. The beach.     ;D

Well that would have been an explosive storyline in the dailies if the worst were to have happened. :) ;D

I wish I had realised, but I must have been only about age 12. In about 1961.  It was very near to the site of Fort Crosby

The people of Liverpool had a high reputation immediately after WW2, because of the part that the City and its people had played during the war. My auntie applied for jobs in Bournemouth after the war.   When she said she had been in the CIA in Liverpool during the war. They said that is a good record of service to the war effort. Another Aunt was a WREN working in HQ Western Approaches.

I understand why you have such a passion for anything Militaria or the armed forces etc. :)
