The description of Lutton, on GenUKI, states:

LUTTON, (or Luddington-in-the-wold), a parish partly in the hundred of Willybrook, county Northampton, and partly in that of Normancross, county Hunts, 5 miles east of Oundle, its post town, and 6 south-west of Yaxley.

So Lutton is just one of many parishes that cross county boundaries! ;D

This phenomenon seems to be peculiar along the former Great North Road i  didn't know of Lutton but Royston Stamford and Bawtry all straddle former county boundaries. Any more either on the Great North Road or elsewhere and why?

Ecclesiastical parishes were no respecters of county boundaries!
In most cases the parishes were there before county boundaries were established.

The eighth Archbishop of Canterbury Theodore of Tarsus (c.602–690) applied to the Anglo-Saxon township unit, where it existed, the ecclesiastical term parish.

"The Gentlemen's Magazine", volume 112, page 233, in an article entitled "Preliminary Observations of Population Abstract" stated:

There are, in England and Wales,  about 550 parishes which are known to extend into Two Counties, or into more than One Hundred or other Jurisdiction.

I think we can reasonably call the thread closed now. Sorry for the hi-jack, hope it added interest!
