I have a friend whose grandmother had the maiden name Mumbly, It's the first time I have come across this surname and im now interested in tracing the origin's of it, im wondering has anyone else ever came across it especially In the Dublin area.
I have already checked the 1911 census and found my Friends grandmother at no 3.6 North Ann St Dublin along with her parents.
Christopher aged 26
Ellen aged 23
Maryann aged 2 (friends gran)
it states they have been married 3 year's with 1 child born.

I then found Maryann married on the civil reg to William Powell in 1931.

Im hoping to find out some more about the family pre 1911 (no record on 1901 census).
I know there are variations of the Mumbly surname such as Mumble, the E dropped and replaced with a Y, I guess for obvious reason's, its also spelled Mumbley.

For reference, here's the family in 1911 census-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Inns_Quay/Anne_Street_North/32855
Address was 3 North Anne St.-

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks dathai,
I saw the Twamley marriage but then had to go out - frustrating isn't it! I mean the mistranscriptions not the fact that I have to have a life outside Rootschat  ;)

Just to update..
Paid a visit to the GRO this morning and purchased both marriage certs from 1908 & Maryann's from 1931.

The 1908 marriage cert for Christopher & Ellen Gallagher gives following info.
He is aged 19 (opposed to 26 in 1911) his address is 5 Linenhall St,
His occupation labourer
His Father is also Christopher and a labourer.

Ellen aged 23 (opposed to 23 in 1911) her address is 5 Angle Court
her Father is Patrick Gallagher a labourer.

The marriage took place in St Michan's, witness's hard to make out but look like Richard McGrane & Celia Connor.

On putting some pieces together, it looks like Mary possibly had at least 3 brothers and 3 sister's,
Patrick Joseph dob 1911 died 1915
Patrick Christopher..dob 1917
James                  ..dob 1919

I noted a birth from 1932 for a Teresa with mothers name Gallagher.
I also noted marriages in 1940 & 1947 for Rosanna & Elizabeth,in that order.

But who is Christopher  ::)

Richard Magrane/McGrane can be found in censuses, I think, but no Christopher as yet.

Christopher Mumbley married Esther Gallagher 1908, he was my friends Great Grandfather,
His father according to Marriage cert was also named Christopher.

Online records for the family pre 1908 in Dublin apart from what we have so far, seem to be few and far between.??

Sorry - I didn't write that very well   ::)

I meant where is he before his marriage and who is he with regard to his family.

I can't see a likely candidate.
