George Middleton Mildred Bertha Hilliam Chastworth Church Stretton
« on: Saturday 13 August 16 19:52 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I am trying to find out more about my great grandparents, George and Mildred (not the TV show!). I have discovered that they were married in Church Stretton, Shropshire on 3rd March 1913.  The addresses that they stated on their marriage certificate were Chastworth, Church Stretton and Daylesford, Church Sretton.  I have found a property called Daylesford in Stretton, however can't find any houses called Chastworth. It may have changed name or even no longer exist.  I have trawled through the 1911 census for Church Stretton and can't find any record of it.  DO YOU KNOW IT?!

I'd also love to know any information about George. I can't be sure of his relatives.  His father is also George Middleton and was stated as being an engineer on the marriage certificate, George junior being a draper. However I have no idea where they were from or George's mothers name.

George and Mildred went on to have three boys, George, John and Esmond.  Sadly Mildred was killed in a car accident (she was driving) in 1921.

If anyone can shed any light at all, no matter how much, I would be so grateful.

Many thanks

Could Chatsworth   be what was meant?    not Chastworth, do you think?

There is a link to 1901....Shavington Park

This George snr is an Engine driver (estate) and if I remember correctly, engine drivers have been known as engineer's ( crosses fingers that I am not mixed up!)

George Middleton    36
Catherine Middleton    40
George Middleton    15
John Middleton    12

and also 1891 ( Shavington Park Lodge) where George snr is an engine driver (sawing?) born Shropshire living in Cheshire, I think it is all part of the estate he worked on and if you google SHAVINGTON Park, the map that comes up on the search to the right has CHATSWORTH just above

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:4SSM-W6Z

George Middleton    26
Elizabeth Middleton    25
George Middleton    5
John Middleton    2

Later one

But I can only find the draper connection on his military notes, George snr has also married twice.

Can I ask who the witnesses were 1913?

George's military records show him as aged 29 years 5 months upon enlistment on 8 December 1915.

The Worcester family found by keyboard looks very promising to me - Loosea would do well to check them out for occupations etc in 1911.

I used to live near Hylton Road many moons ago!

1911 looks a much better fit and the move to Birmingham.

Oh my goodness! I am overwhelmed with all of your kindness and willingness to help.  Thank you so much!

Firstly, yes the house name is definitely written as Chastworth not Chatsworth on the marriage certificate. I have to assume that the house doesn't exist any more, or perhaps has changed name. Thank you though.

Keyboard86 I think you may just have found my great great grandparents!! The occupations fit and I guess Worcester isn't too far from Shropshire! I am just looking into those new relatives now to find further confirmation, but I am sure you are on to something! I can't thank you enough!

Willsy - massively impressed by the amount of time you have put in for me, thank you so much. I also found the two George's in Shropshire working on the Shavington Estate, however in 1911 both of their occupations were wrong to match the marriage certificate two years later. Their witnesses at the wedding were Percy James Shenton and Nellie Agnes Hilliam.

You are all amazing!  I was honestly expecting never to hear from anyone, so thanks!
