Sussex born ancestors marry in Hertford????
« on: Monday 15 August 16 15:37 BST (UK) »
My G G Grandparents Thomas Venus born 1811 in Pevensey Sussex and Patience Cook{e} born 1811 in Chailey Sussex seemed to have married in 1834 in Hertford at All Saints and St John's Church.

I have no record of any of the family having connections with Hertford or Hertfordshire and am at a loss to see why they would marry there.

Any help and suggestions would be gratefully received.

What was Thomas's occupation - could they have been servants working for the same family in Hertford?

Thanks!
The only occupation I have for both Thomas and Patience is after their marriage when they owned a fruiterers in Brighton. So if they were in service I have no knowledge of that. But I suppose that is a possibility - will need to dig deeper in Hertford records.

Hi

If you have a look at Hertfordshire Names Online they have a record of the marriage & also the licence issued in 1834, this states both Thomas & Patience were of Little Amwell so it's possible groom is correct & they were both working there at the time.

I have found an Ann Venus with two children, which look like the same two as with Thomas and Patience in 1851. I can't read her occupation - I think it sayd Ind (independent).
