There's quite a few links here but some are not indexed including the deaths. Long job looking as there doesn't seem to be an index for the deaths but I did the same for a marriage in Oregon and did find it.

There are 2 Hugh Maxwell's on the 1841 Scottish Census who fit the bill for *possibly* 2 different Hugh Maxwells in Canada.
One Hugh Maxwell is in Larkhall Lanarkshire - he's a 13 year old coal miner and has a 7 year old brother Angus.
The other Hugh Maxwell is a 10 year old in Ballantrae Ayrshire - he's on the 1851 Census too aged 23 years still in Ballantrae and is an Agricultural Labourer.

Looby :)

Hi, thanks for the info.  My Hugh is the first one. I have him tracked up until 1880 US census when he is living with Angus and his family in Macoupin, Illinois.  Then I lose him! And his wife Isobel was  there in the 1871 census when they were in Lingan, Nova Scotia, but in 1880 it says he is a widower...but can't find when or where Isobel died.  I'll keep looking!
