Welcome to rootschat GeorgaDale.

Can you give us a bit more information so we can make sure we have the right Joseph Smith - a common name as you know.  :)

Do you know his wife's name, his children's names and dates and places of birth?
Do you have him in any censuses?

Are you looking for specific information about him, or are you solely looking to make contact with descendants? If so, supplying the answers to the questions above will help anyone who comes across this thread looking for the same man to ensure they have a connection with the same Joseph Smith.

Good luck and let us know if you need further help with Joseph.

Yes, Joseph was married twice,  Ann Crawford in 1849 and Esther Wilson in 1866.  He was a Draper & ship owner & lived on Liddle/Liddell Terrace.  He died in Dec 1810.  He had at least 12 children.  I would like to make contact with descendants.

Thanks,
GeorgaDale

It is worth putting your research names on rootschat because anyone googling that name is likely to stumble across this thread. Many of us have found distant cousins who join rootschat to make contact. You sometimes have to be patient though.  :)

As you are specifically looking for descendants, it may be worth adding some more details of children, and more recent descendants in case others have not managed to get their research as far back as the 1800s.

At the bottom if each rootschat page (second column on the left) you will find "Surname Interests", where you can add details of the surnames you are researching, and also check to see if any other members may be researching the same families as you.

Good luck.
