Help finding family in census please
« on: Saturday 20 August 16 09:47 BST (UK) »
Hi, i am searching for the family of Jane Errington Fenton born in 1901 in Urpeth, found her in 1911 and 1901 with parents Thomas Fenton and Ann, looking at the 1911 census the most likely marriage for this couple is between Thomas Fenton and Annie Gowland.

My problem is apart from the 1911 and 1901 census i can't seem to find Thomas Fenton in the earlier census records leaving me unable to trace the line further back!

In 1911 Thomas Fenton is listed as born in 1868 in Urpeth Dutham and in 1901 his birth year is 1869. I can't find him in 91, 81 or 71.... hope someone may be able to help, maybe i'm not looking in the right place.

Many thanks

Jason

I agree with Cas (stalic ) that that one is worth exploring. The Thomas Fenton reg in Chester Le Street 1866 seems to have died in the same year but 1881 and 1891 census has a Thomas Fenton b Low Fell with parents Robert and Sarah in the right geographical area. Going back to  the 1871 census he seems to be recorded as Thomas Harn with parents Robert and Sarah. Looking for a marriage for Robert Fenton I noticed one in Gateshead in 1873 between a Robert Fenton and Sarah Harm.

Going back to  the 1871 census he seems to be recorded as Thomas Harn with parents Robert and Sarah.

Additionally, in the 1871 that family are living in Urpeth.

Added: in fact they were living at Urpeth Stables which was here http://maps.nls.uk/view/102341512#zoom=5&lat=8964&lon=14971&layers=BT and on later maps is called Low Urpeth, not very far from Low Fell.
