Hello.
Sarah Donald was my great, great, great grandmother but I have been unable to find any information at all about her DOB, place of birth or family. All I know about her is that she was an illiterate servant at the time she gave birth to her illegitimate daughter, Mary Ann Donald, in Ulverston in 1852.
I found a marriage record two years later of a Sarah Donald to Edward Magee (who was a railway labourer so I hope I'm correct in assuming that he came from somewhere in Ireland.) They then all disappear as I can find no trace of Edward, Sarah or her daughter Mary Ann on the 1861 Census so I am wondering if they moved to Ireland but where, I have no idea.
This is all speculation and by the early 1870s Mary Ann had reappeared and returned to the Ulverston/Barrow-in-Furness area because this is where she met and married her husband Richard.
The only reason I even believe that it is my GGG grandmother Sarah who married Edward Magee is because I traced her daughter Mary Ann and her husband and family on the 1891 Census and lodging with them in Barrow-in-Furness were a Daniel Magee (born around 1867), Martha Magee (born around 1870) and Lily Magee (born around 1890) all from Ireland so they must have been related somehow through Edward and Sarah's marriage more than thirty years previously.
Are any of these names and information sounding familiar to anyone out there please? I've hit so many brick walls in this line of my research that any new clues or information would be VERY welcome.
Thanks so much for reading.
