Connell/O'Connell
« on: Wednesday 24 August 16 20:35 BST (UK) »
Hello, i'm back again and had success in researching my husbands line of ancestry and have even connected to his cousins but now i want to find the line beside it. I am looking for relatives of Annie/Anna Connell born in 1867 in Cork (in the 1901 census in Limerick states this) she was married to Martin Hanly November 11th 1886 in Caherconlish, Limerick. Her father was registered as Patrick Connell and witnesses to the marriage were Witness 1Name:EdmondHanly (Edmond was Martins dad)
Witness 2 JuliaO'Connell this could be a sister or a mother. There is also a Kate Connell on one of Annie and Martins childrens baptism record.

The Connells are also known as O'Connell or Connel as well. I know all about the Hanly's but now i'm looking for the Connells that have these names in the family tree

Definite father: Patrick Connell
Ancestor in question: Annie Connell D/O Patrick above
Relatives of the above : Julia and Kate Connell/O'Connell

Cheers!

Civil Registration (as found on www.irishgenealogy.ie) is showing 76 Ann Connell/O'Connell
births between 1865 and 1869 ::), but only 1 in Cork.

(Does the 1901 census say she is born in County Cork, or Cork City?)

For a baptism you will need to know:
1) which denomination?
2) Which parish? (or townland)

Catholic registers are available at http://registers.nli.ie/ - but they aren't indexed! You have to find the right parish, and go through page by page.

Hi @Sinann yea i have them on the census and all and i have all the info on the children and Martin but I am actually looking for relatives of Annie the Connell side of the family. In 1901 it said she was born in Cork but in the 1911 one when she was a Widow (as Martin had died in the workhouse) she put she was born in Limerick.

@ KGarrad it said she was born in Co. Cork but in the 1911 one when Martin had passed on that she stated she was born in Limerick. Weird. I have a feeling she may have lied about her age too as in 1901 she stated that she was 37 but in 1911 she has that she is 34. 3 years younger. I wonder if she was the lesser age? Martin also had a different age on the 1901 census he made himself younger (as i have his birth cert) The spelling of Hanly is supposed to be without the "e" but it was recorded incorrectly as Hanley on the 1901 census, as in the written pdf he had signed it Hanly but there looked like the "l" was joined in a loop with the "y"
