Name of a Dorset town?

A comparison with other lines in the extract shows that the last letter is obscured in the binding. Maybe Kenton ?

I'm not wholly convinced that the 4th letter is t, as it's rather different from other examples of t in this extract. But if it is, perhaps Kenton is a variant spelling for Kington, only about 3 miles away? Kington Magna has already been suggested above.

I can't find anything other than Kington Magna which has already been mentioned as being too long...I don't think the fourth letter is  "t" either:

It seems fairly certain that it is a town in Dorset or possibly Wiltshire, I do not think the would have moved a body too far in those times.

Clerks weren't always consistent, but if the place was in a different county, they usually put xxxx in the county of xxxx. Although Gillingham is close to the Somerset border and a nearby place, even if in Somerset may not have been identifird by county. Are you trying to match him with the Robert born in Evercreech?

All I have at the moment is a Robert H B abt 1640, may have married a Mary Frost and one of their sons was called Joseph B abt 1677.
