Metropolitan Cemetery Trust Melbourne. What's going on?
« on: Friday 26 August 16 00:46 BST (UK) »
http://www.gmct.com.au/deceased-search/

Has anyone else tried to conduct  a deceased person search on the website recently?

It has had an "upgrade" and consequently is quite baffling (to me anyway).

Suppose I want to search for the interment of a chap named William Robertson and I know nothing about him but that he died in 1939.

I open search page, agree to their terms and enter the name.

Up come the results with up to 5 pages of men of the name . Total of 63 William Robertsons

All of the entries show the cemetery and precise location.

BUT Only some of these show a date.

When I click on "show on map"  in hopes of more information, (such as a date) up comes a map of the cemetery showing the whereabouts of an unrelated person of a completely different name with their details of date and age etc.

Now, please tell me what I am doing wrong. I must have missed an important click somewhere in the process ::)

I emailed the Trust on the subject but no reply or explanation was forthcoming

Thank you Merlin.
I'm not looking for anyone in particular at the moment.
Just whinging about the site's functionality ;D

If you have the knack of making the search work, please share ::)

Sue I use the mapping search above the main search.  Yes and that is also frustrating as you don't get dates, just names and cemeteries but there is more identifying information when you click on the name of the possible person of interest.  Hope that makes sense :)

You can use the deceased search function below to access burial and cremated remains records for cemeteries managed by GMCT. To access our comprehensive mapping function, including advanced search options and map printing, please click here.

Cheers :)

Thanks Cando,
Well, I did try that with the fictional William Robertson and had no success I'm sorry to say.

I would need to click on the names of 5 pages of William Robertsons because all I know is his date of death. Not the cemetery or his religion.

The old site used to work reasonably well.

There are currently 18 cemeteries under the Trust's umbrella and, for most of them, the Trust is the only means of online access  to deceased records.

It is therefore really important that information is correct and easily found by family as well as those interested in genealogy such as those on Rootschat.

The lack of response to my email of "feedback" is not helping the public relations issue either.

Very happy and living in hope it is not taken down in favour of the new model.

Until it is improved anyway ::)
