Hello
I am hoping someone somewhere will be able to help me with my BOLLINGTON research as I have drawn a complete blank. All I know is that there was a family "feud" and an illegitimate child so can't progress anywhere.
My great grandmother is Edith Ellen BOLLINGTON, born Kensington in 1888 to Richard & Annie BOLLINGTON. She had a sister Amy and brother Richard, but this is all I know.
The family story is that Edith married a first cousin also called BOLLINGTON who died whilst Edith was pregnant, but this appears to be a cover story to cover up the illegtimate birth of my grandmother Joan BOLLINGTON (became Metcalf) as no father on her birth certificate although this was covered up all her life!! My grandmother Joan METCALF only was aware of Edith's brother and sister near the end of Edith's life when Richard died in 1970 in Islington. There appears to have been a falling out when Edith became pregnant and she never spoke to her family again until years passed. However, it is odd as someone was paying my grandmother's school fees and Edith lived in Notting Hill on her own with Joan until she re-married Edward R SMITH in 1946.
If anyone can help that would be fantastic, have hit an absolute blank for now many years, reignited this weekend as Ancestry.co.uk free!!
Look forward to any responses,
Liz
