Elizabeth McNamee
« on: Saturday 03 September 16 11:08 BST (UK) »
For a while now I have hit a brick wall and I was wondering if anyone could help me. My great-great grandmother was called Elizabeth McNamee (1892-1980) and she married David Sweeney in 1917. I found records in the 1901 and 1911 Irish Census that provided the names of her parents John and Mary along with three siblings Ellen, John and William (living in Lepper Street, Belfast) . Her father died in 1910. However I have been unable to find a marriage or birth record that provides me with Mary's surname.

Welcome to RootsChat.
You need to purchase one or more of the children's birth Certs.
Either from https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk/
Or you can wait to see if they are included in the free release of records next week from here http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/news

The marriage in Belfast in 1889 between John McNAMEE and Mary KING seems the most likely considering William was born in 1890, however as advised you really need to get one of the children's birth certs to be certain you have the right people.

There is a Mary McNamee born Belfast 2 Feb 1902 mother King
Sarah Mc Namee born Belfast 28 June 1904 mother King, this child appears to have died the same year.

Thank you very much for this information, I never knew about Sarah and the number of children born alive/still living is not listed on the original census record for 1911. Sarah's burial record states her last place of residence as 7 Lepper Street so this does appear to fit with the information I already have. I knew I had the correct death record for Mary McNamee (28 January 1940) when I discovered she was buried in the same grave as her daughter's mother-in-law. Her husband John is buried in a separate grave by himself.
