Also just gone over one of his papers again and I think I am doing him a great injustice he surely looks like a regular on the evidence of the stamps on the right.

He's not a regular - he's in the Reserves or Militia.

2 weeks annual training is (I think) all they had to do! ;D
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Those are the stamps for his annual training.
No stamp = no pay!

A Regular soldier signed up for a number of years - not just 2 weeks here and there?! ;D
