Marriage at Coldstream
« on: Monday 05 September 16 16:25 BST (UK) »
Hi All

An online tree suggests a marriage for WiIliam Nisbet/Nesbit and AIison/EIlison/AIlis McLean on 5 Aug 1863 at Coldstream but no matter how little information (1863 plus WIliam and McLean because of the variant spellings) I enter into Scotlands People I can't get a result for the search.

Am I doing anything wrong?

I have tried many shortened versions including just initials for the whole county and Roxbroughshire  without success either.

I've checked the marriages for Coldstream in 1863 via Dusty Docs & there's no sign of the marriage. Perhaps it was irregular?

Perhaps the information came from one of the children's birth certificates  :-\

Plenty of examples on here where the information was not accurate or a match could not be found on the official Register  :-\

There is a death for an Alison Nesbit(other surname McLean) 1876 Kelso Roxburgh , born c1848.

Maybe worth keeping in mind if Dawnsh has further information.

Thanks for all the hints and tips.

I'm helping someone out with their Nesbitt tree, they hop around all over the place.

Not all verified yet but census entries suggests births in Branxton, Carham, Ford, Norham and over the border into Kelso.

So in 1861 at Kelso I've got WiIliam Nisbet, 22, born England with Jane Nisbet (nee Trotter), 22, born Kelso, and Jane aged under 1 born Kelso.

According to FS, Jane was baptised 1860, also a John baptised 1862.

in 1871, still at Kelso, WiIliam Nisbet, 28, b England, AIison 25 born Kelso, Jane aged 10 and IsabelIa aged 3. Brother (in law) Wi:liam McLean aged 25 is with them.

According to FS IsabelIa was baptised 1867 and another John in 1872.

Yes, AIison dies in 1876 and WiIliam moves onto wife #3 Euphemia. in 1881 he's still in Kelso.

I managed to get some free SP credits last week and did quite well with good searching  but have now drawn up another list and will buy some more credits. This marriage Nisbet/McLean was going to be one of them as John born 1872 is my friend's direct ancestor.

Thanks for the look-up gadget, that must be the source of the information on the Ancestry tree.
