Red line through Passenger list
« on: Wednesday 07 September 16 13:31 BST (UK) »
Please can someone tell me what a red line through a name and details on a passenger list means please?  Does it mean they didn't sail and if so, why would that be?  I have 2 passenger lists for the same person, a couple of years apart, both crossed through.  Was a member of RAN. TYI

That usually means they didn't sail.  Either because they didn't get there in time or maybe changed their minds or fell ill or a family problem cropped up.

Not quite sure what the RAN.TYI relates to.

Found an explanation on someone's genealogy blog:-

“Not Shipped”, “NOB” (Not On Board), “Did Not Sail”, or “Cancelled”, often with the entire line crossed out indicate that, for some reason, the passenger listed did not sail with the ship.

Sometimes an entire line is crossed out, not because the passenger was not on board, but because they are officially listed on another page of the manifest.
