My Gatliffe family!
« on: Friday 09 September 16 14:50 BST (UK) »
Help needed with my early Gatliffe's. Got to 1745 with Absolom born in Grappenhall. Apparently his father was also Absolom. But I can't find his birth. Any ideas?

Hi PGatliffe,

Do you have the record for Absolom born in Grappenhall in 1745, or is it his father's record you haven't found? I have found a Marriage Record for an 'Absolam Gatliff' on 16 Apr 1771 to a Martha Ingham, also in Grappenhall. Have you tried searching with alternative spellings?

It's his Father I can't find. The 1745 Absolom married Martha Ingham in 1771. The only possible dates for his father are two marriages one in 1718 and the other in 1720? But they are to early I think? The only other thing I can think of is that the father was baptized with another Christian name. And Absolom was his second name? Am off to Chester record office in a couple of weeks, and hope to resolve the problem there. Thanks for replying.

Hello,

I hope you can solve it! I've found it so tricky using online parish records! I'll keep looking around. :)

So do I. Must be a record of him somewhere. Want to solve this, then I can restart my Mum's family tree. All Smiths and Davies.
Thanks for your time.
PGatliffe.
