Death Record Missing
« on: Saturday 10 September 16 17:16 BST (UK) »
I'm searching for the death of Mary Lawrie in 1901 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
I know that her husband, James Lawrie, died there in 1904.
Mary was born approximately in March 1830. While there is a death record for James, and most of her children, I cannot find anything for her, apart from her gravestone in a burial site for 'mother Lawrie' who died in 1901, alongside her husband.
If anyone could find her death, as I have drawn up many blanks, I would be so grateful! I'm really hoping this will have her parent's names on the death certificate- as this would help me solve a two year old brick wall!

Thanks for spotting that. Maybe Mary's death has been randomly put down as something such as 1801 rather than 1901 too!

The 1900 gives immigration of 1851. The 1860 Milwaukee census gives the birth of daughter Ellen in England. Have you found the marriage of James and Mary  ???

They were married in 1851 in Liverpool, England. Her father was James Veasey, tailor, and she was living with James and Margaret on the 1841/51 censuses. However, I'm hoping her death record might say Margaret's maiden name, as this is an elusive brick wall for me.

Indeed: I have most of the marriages and almost all of the deaths of the Lawrie family- except for Mary senior herself! It's rather vexing, as I've trawled through all of the deaths in 1901 and cannot find anything for Mary. I tried looking in the rest of the USA, but there's nothing there either that seems to fit. It's just like Mary and her family to be difficult!

Have you written to the cemetery that shows Mother Lawrie 1901 ?  Perhaps they have further information or a date which could help.

Or try writing/emailing -  Milwaukee County Genealogical Society - volunteer researchers will search  for a fee of $5.00 per name, per source

http://www.milwaukeegenealogy.org/

Might be a volunteer on the RAOGK list which is worth a try -  ???

I've refrained from writing because I'm wondering if for some reason, they just weren't registered. Her daughter Margaret (Maggie) doesn't seem to have a death record either in 1870. The only thing I'm hoping (in vain!) is the Veasey parents name on the death record- however James Lawrie's death in 1904 doesn't show his parents either. It's one of the only ways I might be able to make some progress into a very complicated Veasey tangle!
