44 Pinewood Ave., Toronto.

Today, 44 Pinewood Avenue is the location of Humewood Park.  However, in 1956, my step-sister, June Fullerton died at that address.  It looks as if a number of houses were demolished for some reason as there is nothing now between #32 and # 50.    I would very much like to know what happened to these houses and when.

If a park was developed at this location, I would think the City of Toronto would have that information. I would contact the City Engineering and/or Parks and Recreation departments to find out the histories of those Pinewood Ave. properties. They may have some pictures of the homes as well. Since the creation of the Humewood park would have been a news worthy item for the local newspapers such as the Toronto Star as well as the Globe and Mail I would either contact the newspaper archive dept of the Toronto Public Library or the newspaper companies to ask for any related articles - park creation stories, etc.

Quick look in the Toronto Archives.. there doesn't seem to be anything in the online collection about houses on Pinewood being removed to expand the park.  Might be worth contacting them - pretty sure they have lots of information that is not online.

Had a look in the Toronto papers and didn't see anything about houses on Pinewood being removed.   .

You could try the Toronto Public Library (as suggested by jdc above).  They might have something in their local history collection about the park.  They also have all the City Directories... might ask them to check a couple of years (maybe 5 and/or 10) after your step sister died, to see if number 44, and the other missing ones, still existed?

This lady may either be aware of the history of the Park, or be able to advise you as to the best person/organisation to provide the information you are looking for.
