George William Boardman
« on: Wednesday 14 September 16 16:23 BST (UK) »
Dear Members,

I am helping my wife and father in law trace their ancestors

My wife’s great grandfather was a George William Boardman (Colliery Stoneman ) - as marked on her gran/nans marriage certificate - the only link I can find to the previous Boardman generation

Alas I do not know where he was born/ lived or died. The only clue we have is one picture with him wearing regalia as if a mayor or on the Urban District Council somewhere in the UK

What has made my search near on impossible is the daughter, Mary or Anne Boardman we believe was adopted as I have been unable to trace her official birth record. The DOB we always had for her was 22/11/1921

I have her son’s birth record (my father in law/ wife’s father) and Anne or Mary was living in Cullercoats an urban area of North East England in 1943

I understand George Boardman died somewhere between 1921 and 1944 (he is marked as deceased on her marriage certificate in 1944)

Can anyone advise my best course of action for what seems like an impossible search

Hope to hear back from soemone who can help

Kindest Regards

Steve

Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

From the Marriage Certificate of GW Boardman to your wife's gran, what was the date of marriage, where, and what were the father's names & occupations?

There is a birth for a George William Boardman in Ecclesall Bierlow, December qtr 1900.
Could that be your man?

What I can glean from the photo is a knitted tie & collar stiffeners which put together would have a start date of late 1920's. It could easily have been taken in the 30's. He looks to be well into his 50's & maybe a well preserved 60 something. So I think you should be looking for him being born 1870-80 ish.
Can you put this on a scanner & take a high res. scan of the end.

Welcome from me as well  :)

As Jim mentioned a more high res scan might be helpful - particularly of the emblem on the possible mayoral chains
