Fuller/Tidey marriage 1870-1900 Horsham
« on: Saturday 17 September 16 17:54 BST (UK) »
Hello Rootschatters.
I am seeking the marriage of Thomas Fuller (b. Horsham abt 1841) & Mary Tidey (b. Warnham/Horsham 1851). They are the known parents of Caroline Fuller b. 1893 Worth (E. Grinstead) & probably also of George William (1878) Henry 1882, Emily 1886 & 4 others up to 1898.
Thank you for your time. Veronica

This seems the most likely marriage, given the age of the oldest child in 1881 (there are many more children than your list - 10 born before 1891!). Not sure why the surname differs though

Jun 1874   Horsham    2b   463
Duffell    Ann
Fuller    Thomas
Hole    James
Wales    Mary Jane

This seems the most likely marriage

Marriage was at Ifield, 17 May 1874
Thomas Fuller, of full age, Bachelor, Labourer, residence Ifield, father George Fuller, Gamekeeper
+
Mary Jane Wales, of full age, Spinster, residence Ifield, father William Wales, Labourer
after Banns
witnesses George Payne, Frances Bridges
Mary Jane Wales signed her name, Thomas and the witnesses all marked.

Thank you but I've eliminated Mary Jane Wales as the mother of Caroline is most definitely Mary Formerly Tidey. This is my great puzzle.

Have you looked the birth certs of Caroline's siblings - do they also have mmn Tidey?

There is a Mary Tidey a little younger than Mary Wales who marries Alfred Mitchell in 1875 - she's still around with her husband in 1901. They're in Billingshurst

Could just have been the registrar having a bad day

I've just applied for the birth cert. For the oldest child George William. I originally had doubts about Mary Tidey until Caroline's cert arrived today & her USSD names Thomas Fuller & Mary Tidey. I think I must be patient for more birth certs. To come in. Thank you again for your interest & time.

There's a birth registration in Horsham for Flora Fuller in Dec 1875
And a baptism of Florence Fuller at Ifield, 7 November 1875, parents Thomas + Mary

But there doesn't seem to be a birth reg in Horsham of Alice Fuller, who was 7 in 1881 (and the Fuller-Wales marriage was 17 May 1874). If Alice was born before the marriage, there's no Alice Tidey birth.
There is though a registration of an Alice Wales, March 1874, Horsham.
