James Fisher 1770
« on: Wednesday 21 September 16 12:47 BST (UK) »
Hello

I am following the line of James Fisher who died in Toll End, Staffordshire 26 4 1818. He was married to Hannah Turner at St. martins, Tipton on 23 November 1790. I can not find any record of his birth in FBMD or Find My Past.

I would be grateful for any information about his birth, about Hannah Turner and about their children.

Thank you

Julia

No guarantee that it's the right one, but FreeReg has a Hannah Nickolds Turner christened in Tipton on 25th November 1770, daughter of Zekel (sic) and Susannah.
Also an Abraham Nicolds Turner born to Ezekiel and Susannah, christened on 13th July 1768 - looks like a brother.

Hallo, Julia

FreeReg has one baptism:

James Fisher, bapt 11 May 1756 Tipton, son of Daniel and Ankerwrite (sic) aged 3yrs 11wks 4days.  This would make him 37 at the time of the marriage - I haven't checked to see if there were previous marriages for him..

FreeReg has Ankerwright Fisher buried 14 Sep 1796 Tipton.

UPDATE: Daniel Fisher married Ankerwrite Brindley at Tipton on 27 Aug 1750.

I am sure Ankerwrite must be an unusual spelling of anchorite (roughly meaning a religious hermit).

Hope this helps
Philip

The marriage is also on FreeReg and James is a bachelor.
Presumably his year of birth has been deduced from his death record?

Bev

EDIT   Yes, said to be aged 48 at death.

Just to confuse matters, there's another James Fisher buried at Tipton on 19th November 1819, aged 72.
He was from West Bromwich.

That may rule out James the son of Daniel and Ankerwrite (shame - it's such a great name!).

There is a baptism of a James Fisher in Quarnford, St Paul, Staffs on 24 Jun 1770 s/o Thomas and Sarah. Record says abode is Blue End.

It's right at the north of the county, some way from Tipton, though.
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott
