clifton street hospital
« on: Thursday 22 September 16 00:20 BST (UK) »
Hi my great grandparents Mary Lynch and Joseph McCullough married in Belfast 29/06/1917.  Mary was a servant in Clifton street hospital which i have found out was a military hospital.  Joseph was in the army so i am presuming this is where they met.  How do i go about finding either of their records from the hospital.  They settled in Baillieboro Co Cavan.

Welcome on here.

Do you know whether the soldier had been injured overseas?

What's listed as the groom's occupation on the marriage certificate? Soldier? sometimes rank, etc. will also be listed.

The most likely place to find any records, if they survive, is PRONI- have you tried checking their e-catalogue?

He may not have been in the hospital there. Perhaps just stationed at the barracks and met her at a dance or something.

Welcome to RootsChat, for the convenience of folk reading your topic, here is the image of the civil marriage record, Mary's residence was given as the Ulster Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital in Clifton Street (a.k.a. the Benn Hospital):

... Mary was a servant in Clifton street hospital which i have found out was a military hospital ...

There was a discussion (link below) about this previously on RootsChat and it was unresolved, it's great that you've got to the bottom of it and established that it was used by the military, could you provide your source in order to close that matter off?
