The heaton family from lothersdale west yorkshire
« on: Thursday 22 September 16 12:31 BST (UK) »
I am new to this site and feel a little daunted by it but anyway here goes thought i would give it a try. I am trying to find the correct lineage of my Heaton family who hailed from Lothersdale in Carleton in Craven before they migrated to nearby Bradford.  My line goes back as such .. William Heaton born 1822 Lothersdale married Susannah Barrens . His father was Joseph Heaton born about 1796 who married Elizabeth Bowker. His father was James Heaton and I think his wife was named Mary.
I have found a James Heaton born Carleton in Craven 1770 and died 1799 who married a Hannah Leatham. His father is said to be a Robert Heaton. This is where I am having problems as there is so many Robert Heaton's in the area at the time I dont know which one. Also I am trying to connect my Heaton's with the Heaton family of Stanbury, Haworth as I think there is a strong connection. Can anybody help me please  ::)

Welcome to Rootschat.  :)

I'm not able to help with the Heaton line but have you looked for any Wills to check for family connections?

hello and welcome to Rootschat.
On Joseph's baptism record it says mother was Hannah. There is a Mary Heaton bapt 1793 at C in C to James and Hannah.
It looks like james bapt 1770 was the son of Robert and Mary. There are several children baptised to Robert and Mary between 1760 and 1770, but two on different dates 3 months apart in 1764 makes me wonder if we have two Robert and Mary couples. Unless the earlier of the 1764 baptisms was quite a late one.

I have found two Robert / Mary marriages in C in C
Robert Heaton to Mary Edmison on 30 July 1744
Robert Heaton to Mary Greenwood on 7 Feb 1768

In both cases bride and groom were of the parish and marriage by Banns. It doesn't state bachelor, spinster, widow or anything.

added
Mary wife of Robert Heaton was buried at C-in-c on 15 Nov 1767, so it would seem to fit with a widowed Robert remarrying.
Robert and mary #1 had two sons called Robert (presumably first died) but the later one would not be old enough to marry in 1768.

Mary relict of Robert Heaton was buried 23 July 1806

Robert Heaton farmer buried 10 april 1800 age 77  that fits with Mary #2 being his "relict" 6 years later. It puts his year of birth abt 1723.
The closest I can find is a Robert bapt at C-in-c on 6 dec 1719 s/o John Heaton labourer no mother recorded. This vicar didn't record any of the mothers at this time!
