Marriage: Robertson to Smith: Glasgow 1925 to 1939
« on: Thursday 22 September 16 14:04 BST (UK) »
I am helping a friend with her family tree but the Scotlandspeople site is down until next Monday so I thought I would try here to get a head start.

I am looking for the marriage of:

Robert Robertson  (1908 - 1943) to
Agnes Blanche Smith (1909 - 1988)

They had a child in 1939 (at 6 Comely Park Place) which gave the end date for the marriage.

Robert Robertson was killed in 1943 on HMS Hythe when it was sunk by a U-Boat:

I have Agnes parents -  Henry Smith & Agnes Cuthbertson (no marriage as yet) but no parents for Robert.

Any help appreciated

A birth certificate in Scotland should give the parent's date and place of marriage.  Scotland's People being down will sadly be a massive hinderance for you this week.

Would also add to pharmaT's comments here that you may also find that you are not able to view images for either the marriage and certainly the birth. Due to privacy/data protection issues, you cannot view images of BMDs before:

births 100yrs
marriages 75yrs
deaths 50yrs

If someone is going this week to the Scotlands Peoples centres, they may be able to look up this info on the terminals there...

Thanks both for replying - hopefully this will move things along.  Fortunately all the BMD information that I will require is within the criteria levels.  Was able to obtain the 1939 electoral roll for Robert & Agnes.  Not a lot of useful information other than confirming the address but it all adds up eventually.

Hi Mary, thanks for the reply.  I should have updated this post but have been away for a few weeks.  I have found the marriage.  The groom is John Robertson but his wife was Margaret Crawford, married 1903 Glasgow. Roberts daughter was named Margaret Crawford.  Regards Ray
