John Halford - 1871 Census in Hemington, Leicestershire

The closest I can find for Elizabeth is Elizabeth Ann Halford, widow, born Shardlow c1815, who is in the county asylum in 1881 & 1891. 

She was buried 10 Apr 1901 at Welford Road, aged 82, putting her birth at c1819, which more closely matches the 1841 & 1851 census dates for Elizabeth 

Finding a marriage would be a start, failing which you will need to obtain a birth certificate for one of the children to establish Elizabeth's maiden name.

EDIT: If anyone is able to find his son George Halford (b. 1849) whilst they are looking please let me know. I also can't find him on the 1871 Census.

this George's occupation is a farm servant and his surname ALLFORD

I was thinking on the same lines looking for the marriage, as the closest I can find is 1840 in Ashborne RD, John Alford & Elizabeth Ride.   

Google tells me that Elizabeth's birth place of Mugginton is "a township in Belper district, and a parish partly also in Ashborne district"

I haven't been able to find a marriage for George, I just know he married Sarah Jane Jarvis, but this is from another person's Ancestry tree.

I have two records for John in 1841, one with his parents Thomas and Susannah, then another which you just posted.

I think you may have the wrong birth for John.  There is one in 1822 with parents William & Elizabeth.  Its indexed as Lockington but the parish was also known as Lockington & Hemington. 

The 1840 marriage of John Alford & Elizabeth was at Brailsford, with John's father stated as William.  Elizabeth's father was George.  John was 19 & Elizabeth was 23.
