The description of the scene the following morning seems right:

001UK's photo is taken from Beach Terrace Road, between the remains of the Mikado and the Sandringham Hotel, facing Hunstanton Pier.

I've put a pin marking the Mikado on this aerial photo from 1920 http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/image/epw001854?search=hunstanton&ref=6

I'd be interested to know how you catalogue and store your collection, 001uk, as it must be huge.  I am hopeless at keeping track of things like that.  Do you identify the places and then put them in an album geographically?  Or keep them in the original collections?  I have a few photos which I've picked up over the years but they are unsorted in boxes, which is not an ideal situation.

I don't catalogue them, I'd never get out of the house and people tell me to get out more as it is! I've got my Topographical cards in counties. I certainly don't keep them in the original collections: too much bulk. (Ronnie Barker did that but then he could afford a big property - but he did keep his Donald McGill cards separate).
Your photos are fine in boxes just keep them away from damp and the images out of sunlight. My 'better' items are kept in archival bags.

Did you notice the boy scout in the crowd of onlookers?

YES! There is a Boy Scout in the far crowd just to the lower right of the flag pole. I think after despair's masterful effort of enhancing the sign we have to arrive at the conclusion it DOES say Mikado. Coupled with the great image find from Teetotal and various back up comments it has to be HUNSTANTON.

I presume from Teetotal's photo we are looking at the property towards the back (as indeed josey suggested). It matches up with the windows sign etc. The clipping mentions lots of amateur photographers so this may well be the result of one of them.

FANTASTIC result and yet again I really grateful for everyone's hard work. I thought this one would linger for ever. Just goes to show how clever you all are!!

Ready for another?!....Not just yet it appears I've reached my posting limit.

I don't think it's the wall facing the sea that you have arrowed, but rather the opposite gable end of that same roof section: the wall facing the Sandringham Hotel. See the aerial photo that I posted the link to.
