Thomas Robertson

Hello,  I'm wondering if there is anyone who can find out if Thomas Robertson came out to Australia very early in the 1800's. He was born in Dalkeith, Scotland in 1800. Married Christian White in 1824 and had several children. After she died he then married Mary Telford in 1844 and had one child.After she too died he immigrated to Australia in 1852 landing in Melbourne on Sep 15th.  There have been stories handed down that Thomas came here to Victoria in the early 1800's probably before he married.  I would love to find our if that's true and also why he came here in 1852. I presume he had family already here.  He married for the third time after settling here in Vic.

On the passenger list for 1852 Thomas' occupation appears to be Blacksmith and he is with his wife Elizabeth and four children, Geo(rge) 7, Eliz(abeth) 5, another daughter whose name I can't read 3 and son John 1.

So how many times did he marry?

Arrived in Mebourne on 15 September 1852 on the Europa.  Departed from Liverpool.

At the moment can't see anything to suggest he went out earlier.  If he was born in 1800 he must have been quite young.

Hello Girl Guide, you have the wrong family. My Thomas is there age 52 with children Margaret, Charlotte, Christian, Thomas, Alexander and Mary. They are a bit spread out on the page though. Thomas' first and second wife died before he left for Australia and he didn't marry again until about 1855. I think his profession is Farm Laborer.

Jaybelnz I have considered that very idea. I'm very familiar with the era as I live in Ballarat Victoria. A city right at the heart of the gold-rush. It's the city where the Eureka Rebellion was fought in Dec 1854. I have a feeling however, that he came straight to Myrniong where he settled as a farmer.
