c 1912 CASTLE HOTEL Fire Brigade Small rural town? Bradninch in Exeter
« on: Friday 30 September 16 20:37 BST (UK) »
Hello!

Any ideas please as to the location of the

CASTLE HOTEL

c1912. Three story CASTLE HOTEL with column entrance having flagpole above. Two story residential terraced property to left. Lantern from entrance has wording but unreadable (probably says Castle Hotel). Fire Brigade pose outside.Looks like a small rural town.

With thanks~001uk

I am thinking it's the Castle Hotel in Wem. The window surrounds are just right but the doorway has changed a bit, and the window above the doorway has been filled in.

No suggestion other than I don't think the one is wem is right, proportionally  not grand enough and the windows look different

I am agreeing with ameliamarden (sorry ShaunJ)!
The properties next door at Wern are commercial, they're residentail on the card. Also the windows of the hotel differ as does the extent of the door porch. :(

Yes I concur. The window surrounds are not "just right" as I first thought, just a bit similar at the top.

Gosh these challenges are tricky !

Something about it looks Welsh to me. Plenty of towns with castles there too.

Just wondering whether there is anything about the firemen's uniform to help identify at least which county it was in?

This has some similarities.

I'm utterly convinced I nailed it :)

It had a fire in November 1912.

SOME? A LOT!

Now you've got to tell us how you worked this out!  ;D

Added: lovely to see that it is still in excellent order and looking so similar to 001's image.  :)
