Sarah Elizabeth BLAKEMORE - suggestions please.
« on: Sunday 02 October 16 17:20 BST (UK) »
Looking for help finding Sarah Elizabeth BLAKEMORE in the 1871 census.  This is my first plea of this sort, so would also appreciate help in how much information etc to provide in the request!

She was born 1857 in St Albans, Herts (baptised 30/8/1857) and I've got her aged 3 in 1861 with her parents (Charles and Hannah) in Birmingham.  In 1862 Hannah (mother) dies; father remarries and by 1871 the 3 eldest children of the first marriage are no longer living with their father.

In 1876 she marries John Thomas HOGHTON / HOUGHTON in Blackburn, Lancs and is in the 1881 census with him in Lower Darwen.

I've tried assorted searches for her in 1871 but have drawn a blank.  Any suggestions much appreciated.

I can see Richard & Amelia. Sarah has to be somewhere local because of her age.
My guess is she's a day servant somewhere in B'ham & there maybe confusion over where she spent the night & been left off the census. It's not that uncommon.

It can be useful if you put in the census references for when you have located a person - helps anyone looking for the page.

Jim's suggestion is good but have you looked at grandparents census entries?

Looks like Hannah was nee Marstin

I've got possible matches for the other two children - in service both - will post the census references after I've finished cooking tea and listening to the Archers  ;)  Pretty sure both the Marstin grandparents are dead in 1871, and Sarah Elizabeth is not back in St Albans with her Blakemore Grandparents.
