Catherine Summers
« on: Wednesday 05 October 16 15:29 BST (UK) »
Catherine Summers was my 2nd great grandmother.
I am interested to know when and where she was born - with supporting documentation is possible.

This is what I know; it is documented from parish, census and government records.

She was born in Kings County. This is stated in the 1901 and 1911 England Census.

Marriage to John Anderson: 01 Sep 1859 in Clara, Co, Offaly, Ireland.
Children: Mary Anderson (1860), Margaret A Anderson (1866), Thomas Anderson (1867), John Anderson (1868), Catherine Anderson (1870), William Anderson (1876), Eliza Anderson (1880).

Death: 01 Oct 1902 in Wood Row, Denton Burn, Northumberland, England.

Any help would be appreciated.

David

Buckinghamshire: Ball, Barton, Boddy, Bowyer, Coleman, Crutchfield, Darvill, Dod, Ginger, Holdham, Howard, North, Oldham, Spicer, Stadhams, Wells, West, Weston.
Cumberland: Bell, Kirsop
Northumberland and Durham: Anderson, Bell, Copeland, Dodd, Humble, Kirsop, Maughan, Neill, Soloman, Turnbull
Glasgow: Curry, Paterson, Youille, Summers, Grieve, Crawford, Henderson
Ireland: Summers, Anderson

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Yes . very RC - thanks for the tip.
May even find out about her parents.

I followed it up.
Unfortunately the Baptism Register for Clara and Horseleap starts in 1845. Catherine married in 1859, which, if I found her, would make her a bride of less than 14 years of age.

Nevertheless, the pointer to the NLI will help me solve a few other problems.   Thanks.

According to the Rahan and Lynally RC parish register, there was a Thomas baptised on 7 September 1862, parents John Anderson & Catherine Somers (sponsors James Anderson and Bridget Fox?) -  left page, 2nd entry down:

Edited to add: Also from the Rahan and Lynally RC parish register, a Margaret was baptised on 28? November 1863, parents John Anderson & Catherine Somers,  sponsors Peter ? & Margaret Anderson - right page, 4th line up from bottom:

Not sure if you've seen the original or if you've been working from transcriptions, Clara and Horseleap RC parish, marriage on September 26, 1859, right page, 4th entry up from bottom:

Interesting - a further child.
The first England Census for John Anderson - that of 1871 - does not record this Thomas Anderson, but a second Thomas - born in 1867 in Lancashire.
Presumably, the first Thomas must have died before 1867.

The 1871 Census also puts Margaret's yob at approx. 1866. Significantly she is called Margaret A Anderson.

Maybe both children died early and were 'replaced' by later siblings. Sadly, it happened quite often.
