Probate
« on: Thursday 06 October 16 10:56 BST (UK) »
Hi Guys

How would I find out the probate number if it is not on Archway.

I have Kyle/Kylie Mervyn Shane Featonby who died in New Plymouth, Taranaki 17 Sept 1994.
The probate would have been issued between Sept 1994 and March 1995.

Thanks

Oh ok

I'm not sure on the exact words but his sister said there was one and at the time they were waiting on the probate in order to pay out for legal expenses etc surrounding his death (without disclosing to much information)

Thanks

Okay  ;)

Hi Lil

You could try an email to Archives NZ (Wellington) to see if they have a record of a probate file.

[Many years back the Wellington Archives office used to have an in-house database which showed names of Probate / Letters of Administration files for the wider Wellington district  (from memory it included Hawkes Bay and I think, Taranaki.  At that time, many of the names did not appear on Archway ... although an Archivist did tell they would all eventually be added to Archway. ]

Hi again Lil

Email Archives NZ (Wellington) first ...

.... but another thought is that (because death occurred mid- 1990's) any Probate record which resulted, may still be held by the solicitors who administered the estate.

Another thing you could do is to contact the probates clerk at New Plymouth High Court, which is where probate was possibly granted. The clerk should be able to tell you where the document is held and who the solicitors were......
