unknown village
« on: Thursday 06 October 16 19:58 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me if they have heard of somewhere called Egliskinning in Carmarthenshire. Possibly around st Clears? It seems to clearly state that on a 1851 census which was in Manobier pembrokeshire. I am not too sure of Welsh geography.
Thankyou

I can't find anything of that name - could it be a bad transcription? Can you post either the name of the person etc or a copy of the image?

How about Eglwys Cymyn (or Cummin or Cymmyn) - it's a parish about 4 miles SW of St Clears?

First half is almost definitely Eglwys (welsh for church)

Familysearch have births/baptisms, but be aware that prior to 1810 they are patronymic

Familysearch have a baptism for Mary Evan dau. of Evan David and Elizabeth, 17 June 1811
in eglws cymmun.

The church is actually St Margaret's, there is quite a bit about it online, including a transcription of memorials and gravestones. Genuki  is a good starting point
