Isabella Chapman, Elm Street, South Moor

When I started my tree a million years ago I never bothered to get my grandmother's birth cert as she told me all the details of her birth and her parents and sisters, so I never questioned what she told me. She passed away two years ago with her papers going to my aunt who passed away last year and then they traveled to my uncle who today passed them to me as the keeper of the records. In the pile was a Deed Poll petition filled out by my grandmother in 1939 in it she stated that she wanted to abandon all ties to her mother's name as she had been raised from the age of six weeks by the people she saw as her parents.
All I have to go on is the details in the Deed Poll and her original birth cert which was attached to it. My grandmother was born Olive Chapman on 11 November 1921 to Isabella Champman of 74 Elm Street, south Moor, U.D. She was born at 1 Newbiggin Road, Lanchester, which I now know was the workhouse.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What is it you want to find out - who Isabella was?

There's an Isabella born 1895 Bearpark Durham.  Her parents were Edward and Jane.

1901 they are living 22 Thompson St Bearpark

Yes, who Isabella was. I don't know if there any electoral registers for 1921 Durham that could help point towards the right parents as I have the Elm Street address. I don't want to go tripping down the wrong rabbit hole while trying to find Isabella.

I don't know Durham, so am a bit clueless when it comes to what is in the area.

I don't know Durham either I'm afraid but the lady above is just one possibility.

Am sure someone will know if Thompson Street or Lime Street perhaps is close to Elm.

I looked at Electoral Registers for 1921

South Moor Ward , Polling District of Stanley, Parliamentary County of Durham Consett Division

74 Elm Street has an Edward Chapman, Jane Chapman and Frederick Walton Chapman

Meant to say also , that was the Autumn Register of Electors so would tie in with the time of the birth

A telephone solicitor work me up. I played dumb and never said a word and she finally hung up. Could not find the telephone off button in the dark. Decided to get up and check RootsChat. My grandparents lived in Old South Moor in a house they built. So it would be a new house in Old South Moor.

A Walking Tour of South Moor. .

Starting at the north end at Ox Hill on high ground walk down Park Street, South Moor on the right  hand side. Do not cross the road at the bottom of the hill as that will take you to the Middles (known as Bloemfontein by old timers like myself) and then into Craghead. Staying on the right at bottom of the hill will bring you to Poplar Street, Elm Street, Maple Street and Lime Street. Then the Park, and the Church then up to Old South Moor and finally ending at Quaking Houses. Done it many times but always on the left hand side as that side had the shops and cinema.
