Help, looking for possible newspaper records.
« on: Sunday 09 October 16 13:59 BST (UK) »
I've just discovered a branch of the tree who moved from England to Canada (Montreal) they settled and had kids out there. I believe they came back to England for a short period before returning. Two sons had sons who entered the military and I've just found records that one died age 21 on a mission in Berlin and the other a year later age 28 in Italy. I wondered if there'd be anywhere to look specifically for newspaper articles to try and gain extra information on what happened.

Names: George Alfred Edward Hermitage 1915-1943

Arthur George Hermitage 1921-1944

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks!

Hi,

Per an agreement between Library and Archives Canada and Ancestry, you can view  WW2,
Service Files of War Dead for free, just a membership (non paying) to Ancestry is required.

From those files,
Lieutenant George A.E. Hermitage served with the Royal 22e regiment and died of mortar
wounds. Find A Grave has photo and obituary.

Flight Lieutenant Arthur G. Hermitage's plane crashed 12 miles south/southwest of Magdenburg,
Germany which was their target. Find A Grave listing, sadly no photo.

Cheers,
