Frederick Stone
« on: Sunday 09 October 16 16:43 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I managed to find my Grandfathers biological father - Frederick Stone on the 1939 census living with his biological mother. His biological father was not on the birth certificate so i am really pleased i have found him living with the mother. I have a few questions if anyone could help me or give me any tips of where to look/search next.
In the 1939 both his mother and father are both down as married, my granddad was never aware they were married and even though i have searched i cant find whether this marriage took place. His mothers name is Hilda ellen Loveless, later on she married an Arthur Durussel who went on to adopt my grandad after his biological Fathers death.

My grandad (who is still with us) remembers reading about his fathers death in a newspaper his mother showed him - He commited suicide in a gas oven. Is there any way i can find his date of death knowing his DOB ( 9th Aug 1889) which we received off of the 1939 census?
Id really love to find out whether he married my grandads mother (they both are married on the census) but as far as we were aware Hilda hadnt married anyone before she married my grandads stepfather in 1943.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The birth date may help to narrow down likely suspects on the death indexes, but it would only be as accurate as the informant - so if a neighbour registered the death it might be a best guess.

As the father is not named on the birth certificate you can be sure that they weren't married at the time of your grandfather's birth.

A good place to start would be a copy of the 1943 marriage certificate and see how she is described ... spinster/widow/divorced etc.

Marrying in the name Loveless in 1943 (assuming that was her birth name) would suggest that either she was not previously married or had obtained a divorce - otherwise , if she was a widow you would expect the marriage to be in the name Stone.

Are you saying on Frederick's birth his surname is Stone & his mother's maiden name is Loveless but no father's name is listed?

Yes - we assumed this :) thank you very much.

I will order a copy of her marriage certificate just to confirm my prediction that she wasn't married beforehand. Thank you for the tip.

His birthdate holds no clues to finding his death certificate as yet. Id love to get my grandad a full history on his real dad.
He had such an unhappy childhood with his adoptive father.

On my grandads birth certificate he has no father listed - he was known as Norman Stone in school until he was adopted by his step father.
His mothers maiden name was loveless.
