cc,

You may want to consider Soldiers & Airmen's Wills on SP?

It's possible he was killed & maybe why your mother never spoke about it (too painful)?

Hi
James Rennie, aged 65, unmarried, died at Waverley House, Stranraer, on 11th March 1964. His usual residence was Newton-Stewart. Hi mother was Fanny Rennie (deceased) (no father) COD was Cerebral Haemorrhage. Registered by a cousin (unreadable) [899/32]

I  have Rennie in my tree so I was interested to look this up in Edinburgh today. No connection to me though, as far as I can see.

Best wishes
Ian A McClumpha
