Reverend John EVANS
« on: Saturday 15 October 16 00:27 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find some information about Reverend John Evans father of Sarah YATES previous KERSLAKE, WILLIAMS, JONES nee EVANS. According to her headstone:

Sarah Yates (daughter of the Reverend John Evans of Brancalen North Wales) died 17 March 1882 aged 42 years.

Notes: The tombstone in the Presbyterian section at U 84 has "In memory of Sarah daughter of the Reverend John Evans native of Brangalla North Wales and the beloved wife of William Yates who died March 17th 1882 aged 42 years.

Who was the Reverends wife?

Any information is very much appreciated.

I don't know much (anything!) about New Zealand marriage certs, but would the 1879 marriage cert between Sarah Jones and William YAtes give her mother's name?

I am a little confused!  On both the marriage to Richard Kerslake and to William Yates, Sarah gives her surname as Jones.  Surely it should be Evans........ I am pretty certain that I have the correct Kerslake marriage because on Betsy Sarah's marriage notice in the Auckland Star 1925 https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/AS19251205.2.4?query=richard%20kerslake

Betsy is described as being the youngest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs RIchard Kerslake and stepdaughter of Captain William Yates.

Hi
Account in Cambrian News 7th April 1882:
Our obituary to-day contains a notice of the death of the Rev. John Evans, vicar of Cilcennin and Llanbadarn Trefeglwys, in the county of Cardigan. The deceased clergyman was a brother to the late Rev. D. Evans, who was the first curate of the Welsh Church, at Oswestry. He had been in very delicate health for the last four years, but up to within a few weeks of his death, was generally able to do duty at both his churches himself. He was interred in the family vault in Llanrhystyd Churchyard last Friday, the 31st of March.

Died March 27th aged 42 according to obituary.

1881 Census from Ancestry  Cardiganshire > Cilcennin > District 1  page 7:
Vicarage    John Evans        Head   Married   41   Clergyman            Lanrhystid
Grace F Evans    Wife    Married   40   Clergyman's wife   Llansilin
No children listed.

Also a marriage Q3 1867 Aberystwyth  11b  87,  John Evans to either Grace Collins  OR  Mary Maria Groom.
Above info only makes sense if it was John Evans and not Sarah who died March 1882.
