Looking for the birth of Kathleen Jones Neve, born 21st February 1929
« on: Tuesday 18 October 16 22:38 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am desperately trying to find the birth of the above lady, who is now deceased. I found her full name on her marriage certificate to Robert D Y Lamb in 1948, when she said her Father was William Iden Neve.

On her death registration, her birthdate is given as above, but I can not find a birth entry anywhere. Kathleen had a brother, William John Neve, born in 1920 in Buckingham, to parents,William Iden Neve and Ethel Elizabeth Smith, who married in London in 1918.

I have tried looking also for the birth of a Kathleen Jones with a Mother's maiden name of Smith, and have found a copy of entries, but without buying the certificates, which  make it an expensive hobby if you get the wrong one.

Any help from any experienced researcher would be gratefully received.

Many thanks.

Carol

Hi Carol,

That's a big gap, do you know if there were siblings in between?

Was her father "deceased" when she married?

Hi Annie,

As far as I can see, there appeared to be no other siblings. When I first started looking for Kathleen, I couldn't find her, and wondered if she was adopted? But from the marriage certificate, we know that William John Neve and Kathleen had at least the same Father!? But because I can not find her birth, I can not be sure who her Mother was!?

Over to you!

Many thanks,

Carol

Welcome to Rootschat.

Do you have her parents' marriage certificate? It is possible that it was a second marriage for her mother (especially as it was WW1) If that is the case, she would have married under her first marriage name of Smith, but it would be her maiden name that was shown on Kathleen's birth certificate.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

Can you confirm Kathleen's age when she married in 1948 - she should have been 18 or 19

I wonder if Jones was her true birth surname and she was adopted by the Neve's which would be why she used that surname when she married and gave William as her father.  Given the age gap between her and Charles, perhaps the Neve's could not have more children

What was the occupation of William Iden Neve?

She may have been born elsewhere rather than Buckingham & possibly without middle name or initial showing?
