tracing ancestors
« on: Wednesday 19 October 16 11:44 BST (UK) »
I have recently been researching my ancestry. I have come across one of my ancestors Joseph Lundy who owned a saddler shop at Mill Street, Driffield.
I recently found a newspaper article regarding Bridlington county court that a claim was made between Joseph Lundy and S.Norton Harrison a surgeon in Hull.
How do I find out more information on the case for example the reason etc.
Also how do I find out more information regarding the hop they owned, name of shop, price paid if paid.
Any guidance would be great as I am a beginner at this and im unsure on the roots I should take, as I do have another ancestor who owned a watchmaker shop but would like to find more information

1 reference to Joseph Lundy sadler & milliner (probably his wife's shop in Kingston-upon-Hull) in the London Gazette regarding an assignment of indenture of his estate & personal affects to a Frederick Goodyear merchant of London for the benefit of himself & other creditors. This was Dec. 1848 so it looks like he declared himself bankrupt or just avoided it.
So when was the Court case ?

It looks as though  S.Norton Harrison owed Joseph Lundy £7 6s and he went to court to get it paid.
At the court fifty six plaints had been entered for hearing, of which 31 had been settled out of court or struck out owing to the non-appearance of the plaintiffs; 21 undisputed plaints were disposed of by the Registrar; and 4 disputed plaints were heard by the Judge.
