Hi Don
Welcome from me too!
We have a 'no living people' policy here at Rootschat, please see our guidelines for posting
http://www.rootschat.com/help/posting_guide.phpwhich has a couple of lines for doing more 'recent' research.
My suggestion would be to look for the wider family in the 1901 and 1911 censuses, then look at the 1939 register and try to find people in the electoral registers. Ancestry has the London collection of registers upto 1965 which can be very helpful post WW2.
However, all these avenues will require a subscription and due to the terms and conditions of the likes of Ancestry and FindMyPast we cannot do look-ups for you on the 1911 and 1939 databases.
You will find limited 1911 transcriptions at
www.familysearch.org but if you don't have a subscription then check your local library to see if they offer free access in house.
If you are new to doing research in England & Wales,
www.freebmd.org.uk is a volunteer project transcribing the official General Register Office indexes which is very easy to use but only good upto the 1970's. Later transcriptions can be found at
www.familysearch.org and you don't need a subscription.
Hope this helps.
Dawn
