MARTHA PATERSON SYMINGTON in LANARK, buried PAISLEY,RENFREWSHIRE
« on: Sunday 30 October 16 00:50 BST (UK) »
Hello,
My ancestor, MARTHA L. PATERSON, born Dec. 27, 1775 in Lanark, dau of John and Jane Muir, married James Symington of Lanark on Feb. 10, 1827 in Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire.  She died on Dec. 3, 1858 at 19 Well St. Paisley Renfrewshire and according to one family tree I found on Ancestry, is buried in Laigh Kirk, Paisley.  Trouble is, that cemetery has been transcribed and available online and unless I missed it, I do not see her name in that particular cemetery.

The confirmed burial information I have comes from the Mary Thomson/James Symington headstone #173 in St. Kentigern's Cemetery, Lanark, which I found transcribed fully on historicgraves.com.  The inscription on the stone reads in part "And John Symington, Cartland, died 11 March 1854 aged 86 years, also Martha Paterson, his wife, died 3rd December 1858 aged 85 years, was interred at Paisley".   No mention of any particular cemetery.

Would anyone be able to tell me which cemetery in Paisley is the correct burial for Martha Paterson Symington?  I'm very appreciative of your time.   Jean in Calgary, Alberta Canada.

You say at the outset that Martha married James Symington in 1827 BUT the burial information you give states Martha was the wife of a John Symington???

Thanks Annette - yes, Martha, wife of John, mother of James.  Yet again, I'm mixing up the generations, I usually double check, but rushed this.   So the lair information is correct (but with a different number and I didn't have the backside transcription about the Forrest/Lightbody information) now I'm still trying to make the Paisley kirkyard connection but will check the Lightbody lair in Glasgow. Thinking that may be the key, will appreciate a correction if that thought is wrong.
